This book began life as a catalogue of the Mapping Memory project at Constitution Hill, which set out to bring ex-prisoners who were imprisoned in the Women's Jail and Number Four back to the site to give material form to memories that have been made fragile by the passage of time.
The ex-prisoners took photographs of the jail, made drawings of their experiences and recorded testimony to accompany the photographs and drawings. These products formed the basis of an exhibition and a book, and were also the springboard for public seminars and discussions on human rights issues at Constitution Hill.
