/ Our Sophia Town / 2010
Trace developed the business plan for a heritage centre and walking trail in Sophiatown, the mixed inner city suburb where the apartheid government carried out forced removals in 1955.

In order to complete the business plan, Trace brought back former residents who now live in Soweto and conducted a series of intense memory workshops with them. For many residents, this was their first visit back to Sophiatown and they experienced many emotions as they walked through the streets and talked about the place where they once lived. They drew maps of important sites in the suburb and reflected on how they would like their story to be represented.
